I hear ya brother. After 4 layoffs in 12 years that was the reason I got into teaching 3 years ago. But nothing is safe in this economy. There is a hiring freeze in the county and if your not fully certified you won't have a job in the fall. School districts in Tampa and ST. Pete are closing schools and so is Orlando. Hang in there gang, and may the Lord take you where he needs you. Bless your family at this difficult time.

Catherine,
Thanks for the comment. You are welcome to reply on my blog any time. That way there will be some good writing. I do agree that the debates were useless. They might as well have played a re-run of Third Rock From The Sun.

Hey Paul,
I realize this a delayed response......but, better late then never.
I guess it's all in who you talk to. I've never liked everything about any candidate I've ever voted for (and the majority of my friends have expressed similar views). There were things I loved and hated about McCain and Obama both. I also enjoyed hearing that you liked Palin because I too enjoyed her as a running mate and felt like she was a good choice in many respects.
I believe that voting, politics and government are all about compromise. I don't think it's fair for me to think that I would be able to vote for a candidate that shares my beliefs and is for all the things I am for. I think we choose the candidate we believe will make the best leader and has the majority of the things on their platform that are important to us. That being said I was pretty undecided up unto the end.
As a Detroiter I have been around the excitement of Obama's campaign 1st-hand. I do agree with the black community in which I work, that this election was incredibly significant for them. I applaud and celebrate this historic election.
As for the Obama campaign that just seemed too good to be true. Yes, I agree that the majority of voters don't know all the facts. I do think that most people hear the few things they wan to hear that are important to them and then make up their mind. I also think that most people tend to side with being either Republican or Democratic and that's that. I don't see that changing too much although I'd be all for it.
And, while we're on the subject, how about those useless debates? What a waste of time....

I have always felt that the leader of our country should be just that -- a leader. Not a Senator that gets elected into their position based on good sounding promises that they could never keep.

I also am not very comfortable with a person that has all the 'correct' answers -- one who always is able to turn my concern around to a few sentences that makes me believe that they have my best interests at heart.

I have ye to meet anyone who can tell me exactly what the "change" is that Obama is talking about. I seriously would like to know -- my life has been pretty darn good these last 8 years. Sure, things are jacked up -- if the governmental agencies didnt see it coming, all they had to do was ask me. :)

I love your comments, Paul, keep up the great work and I look forward to hearing more about the Bass Family Adventures -- who needs the Wilderness Family?

I agree, the Obama people have no reservations at all about anything, the shady past, the not so much experience, the "friends" who just happen to be terrorists and corrupt politicians from Chicago, the 20 years in a church that preached racism and bigotry. They instead are dazzled by his smoothness, his ability to use the word "change". He's kind of like that guy in college who was sweet with the ladies because he charmed them with his good looks, and ability to sing "Faithfully" by Journey, but the rest of us guys new what he was really like, and it was scary.
McCain is not perfect, far from it, but I don't worry about his character effecting the country my children want to play soccer in.

You are welcome to join us for the hidden camera volcano special. Perhaps we can use this as a pilot for a new TV show. Maybe the next episode, we can have some war reenacters who are already amputees, pretend to get a limb blown off. Then get the reactions of the elementary children.
The roadkill thing is a tribute to animals. I love traveling. One of the sights that I see every time I travel is roadkill. Think of me as a forensics camera guy. Just documenting the tragedy. Since they're not people, I can make a calendar of it. If they were people, I wouldn't do such things. That would be wrong.
